Meet Ellie: Accounts Apprentice at SeavorChartered

Starting a new career can feel like a big step, but for our newest team member Ellie Wilson, it’s already proving to be a rewarding one!

Just one month into her apprenticeship with SeavorChartered, Ellie has settled in well, made great progress, and even passed her first AAT Level 2 exam; a fantastic achievement so early in her journey.

We caught up with Ellie to hear how she’s finding her new role, what a typical day looks like, and how she’s balancing work, study and life outside the office.

Hi Ellie. Thanks for offering to chat!
No problem! I’m happy to share a bit about how it’s been going so far.

How long have you been with SeavorChartered?
Since October, so it’s still quite early days for me.

And how have your first few weeks been?
I’m really enjoying it. It’s very different to anything I’ve done before, which makes it more interesting. Every day I’m learning something new.

Quite different to what you’ve done before? What were you doing prior to joining?
I’ve just finished college, where I studied Business for two years. During the finance unit, I realised I was more interested in accountancy and wanted to explore it as a career.

It’s great that you found your direction early on! Has the apprenticeship turned out how you expected?
Not really! It’s very different from what I imagined, but in a good way. It’s made me even more interested in the job and keen to learn more.

What does a typical day look like for you at the moment?
Every day is different, but mainly I’m helping prepare accounts and supporting the team with client work. I’m still learning, so I ask lots of questions and get help when I need it. It’s a really supportive environment and everyone’s happy to help me understand how things work.

That sounds like a great environment to start your career in! How would you describe the culture at Seavor?
It’s very friendly. Everyone works hard and there’s a lot of teamwork, which makes it a great place to learn. You can always ask questions and people take the time to help you. It’s a really nice environment to be in.

You’re also studying alongside your role. How are you finding the balance between work, college and life outside of both?
I go to college one day a week, and it’s a good balance. There’s time set aside for revision and coursework, so it’s manageable. It feels like a good routine between learning at college and applying it at work.

And you’re studying alongside Karis as well, aren’t you?
Yes, we’re both on the same course and at college on the same day. It’s nice having someone else from the team there too.

Outside of work and college, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Mostly sport. I used to swim competitively, but now I just do it for fitness about four or five times a week. It’s a good way to switch off after work.

In that case, a branded purple swimming cap is on the way.
…Oh god.

You’ve clearly made a strong start. Looking ahead, have you thought about where you’d like your career to go once you finish your apprenticeship?
For now, I’m focused on finishing Level 3 and Level 4 at college. Once I get there, I’ll start thinking about my next steps. Maybe working towards becoming chartered in the future.

Ellie has made a strong start to her apprenticeship, quickly finding her feet and bringing fresh enthusiasm to the team. Her approach to learning and willingness to ask questions has already stood out. With her first AAT exam under her belt, it’s clear she’s heading in the right direction. Congratulations to Ellie on her first exam success, and welcome to the team!
